Ulrika Lindblom (Sweden, 1967)
Artist statement: Urban environments, surfaces and the meetings between urban cities and nature have always fascinated me. I often mix abstractions of facades with people, animals or shapes from nature. For me, these facades are more than just a surface of a building, they are like a game-field with different paths and openings, sometimes with a focal point but very often just like a pattern. Facades are patterns, geometrical structures where each square hides a life. Sometimes I see the facades with all the windows as code to break down on paper. I like to experiment with mixed media and often work in bigger scale with watercolour, screen-printing and collage. Media and my own experiences inspire my works. I collect patterns of facades and then abstract them in my own way not trying to depict any particular geographical location.
